Hug-A-Tree and Survive
is a preventative search-and-rescue program. It is aimed at children from
age five to twelve years old. The goals are to teach children:
-
how not to be come lost
in the woods
-
what to do if they
do become lost
-
how not to come to harm
-
how they can help searchers
find them.
The program consists
of a video, a manual for the presenter, and printed handouts for parents
and children. These print materials include a colouring/storybook about
a boy who gets lost and then found; a flyer of information for parents;
presenter information (about characteristics of age group, effective presentations,
questions to ask, etc.) and background survival knowledge for the presenter.
