Storm Drain Marking Program
The Yellow Fish Road
WHAT

The Yellow Fish Road is a public awareness project that alerts people to the hazards of discarding unwanted household chemicals down our storm drains. This project also makes the public aware of the proper method of disposal of hazardous household wastes.

WHY

Most homeowners do not realize that storm drains run directly into our streams, lakes, fishery habitats, and drinking water. There is no detour through treatment plants. Pouring paint thinner down a storm drain is the same as pouring it into our local waters.

HOW

Girl Guides will be organized in participating communities across the province. Groups will canvass designated neighbourhoods to deliver notices of information and to paint a yellow fish symbol beside storm drains.

WHERE

The Yellow Fish Road can happen anywhere that there are storm drains within interested communities.

WHEN

Timing is dependent on support from the community, weather, and Girl Guide availability.

WHO

Girl Guides of Canada, Saskatchewan Council is proud to be a part of a program that involves our youth in a project that accomplishes something positive for the environment.
