Where is Can-ta-ka-ye?
Can-ta-ka-ye is located nine miles southeast of Birsay, Saskatchewan on the shores of Lake Diefenbaker. Driving directions will be sent out with packages after registration or on request.

Who can attend Can-ta-ka-ye?
All girls aged 5-18 (girls aged 14-18 are involved in a leadership program). The camp is staffed and maintained by Girl Guides of Canada, Saskatchewan Council. Non-member girls are welcome!

Can I attend camp with my daughter/niece/granddaughter/etc...?
Yes. Can-ta-ka-ye holds camps every year that are specifically for girls aged 5-12 and an adult female. During these camps, girls and their adult females are given a chance to bond, as well as spend some time apart, to help girls get used to the camping experience.

During other camps, female adults may come and participate as adult volunteers. Adult volunteers help during quiet times, meal times and bed time, and sleep in a separate room from the campers. For more information on Adult Volunteers, check out our brochure.

My daughter has food allergies/is picky/has special dietary needs.
A personal health form will be sent out upon the receipt of an application form. ALL allergies, food or otherwise, should be documented here. Food allergies will be accommodated by our kitchen staff and foods that girls are severely allergic to will be removed from that camp's menu completely.  We strive to provide healthy, balanced meals and encourage all girls to try a little bit of everything to ensure that they are getting all of the nutrients they need.

How far away is medical attention (in case of emergency)?
There is a part-time doctor's office located in Lucky Lake (less than 30km away). EMT call time is 1 hour, but first responders are available within half an hour. We also have health services staff on staff for all programmed camps. This staff is (at a minimum) trained in Standard First Aid and CPR and available at all times.
